Thousands of people and thousands of parts come together to create each Defender. Deniz Yetkin keeps it all on track.

Deniz makes sure every new development across the Defender family is delivered on time at the right quality and cost. JLR calls it Head of Process Chain for Vehicle Programmes.

It’s a big job, with people in the UK, Slovakia and Hungary working together to meet vehicle strategy, design, development and launch targets. And that’s not all: Deniz also oversees five teams focused on Defender safety, seating, cabin, doors/glass and cockpit/climate.

Deniz works on the reborn 4x4 icon at every step. “Starting with the initial design phase, I collaborate closely with the engineering team to make sure the product is innovative but also meets the highest standards of quality and reliability.

 

“I contribute to the meticulous engineering processes, so every aspect of the design is rigorously examined. This involves overseeing trial manufacturing phases, addressing challenges as they arise, and refining the design to meet the rigorous standards set for a vehicle of Defender's calibre.” 

 

After that comes trial manufacturing and, ultimately, series production. And still there’s more for Deniz.

 

“My role also involves managing budgets, tooling, design and development costs, as well as the part piece price to ensure the overall success and sustainability of every Defender project.”

 

Before working on Defender she was Project Manager for Supplier Quality, then Quality Manager in Electrical Engineering, managing a diverse global team working on software, infotainment, advanced driver assistance systems and electrical distribution system quality.

 

Deniz’s ten years at JLR have given her has a deep love for Defender. “Its unique blend of luxury and dependability resonates with me. Crafting a vehicle that combines adventure and reliability is not just a job but a source of immense satisfaction.” 

Like so many of her colleagues, she dispels any idea that it’s a car created by men for men.

“Defender's blend of adventure and luxury resonates with me on a personal level, as it transcends traditional gender norms. 

“My role in shaping the development process ensures that Defender reflects the preferences of a diverse audience – including women who appreciate both adventure and refined driving.” 

One example Deniz points to is the Auto Access Ride Height feature, designed to make it easier to get in and out of Defender. “I especially love that feature as a woman. 

“I’m dedicated to creating products that resonate with a wide range of individuals and this thoughtful consideration for diverse needs exemplifies the commitment to inclusivity within the Defender team.”
